Rachel Russell

MS, OTR/L

Hi. I’m Rachel.

After having my first tiny human in 2018, I quickly realized there was more to recovering from pregnancy than just a 6 week followup with my OBGYN. By the end of most nights, I could barely walk upstairs and getting into my pajama’s was a whole other struggle. I knew from my background as an occupational therapist, something was not right. So I set out on a search for help—and found a pelvic floor therapist.

During the pandemic, I was blessed with a second tiny human. Things did not go as planned and ended up in an emergent caesarean section. What I learned was this recovery would look completely different from my first birth—both physically and mentally. Thankfully, I was able to use my OT skills to move my body safely and efficiently, when completing all of my daily activities, including being a mom.

What I came to realize from my personal experiences, and talking with other moms—everyone’s journey is different. New moms needed a whole-body approach to achieving pelvic wellness. And this is how Rooted Pelvic Wellness, LLC came to fruition in 2021.

I am an Occupational Therapist.

I have been blessed to have a career that allows me to stretch my mind and my physical skills while working with different populations. When working in inpatient rehab, I have worked with neurological diagnoses such as: spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and strokes, as well as, orthopedic diagnoses. This setting allowed me to build my skills of thinking outside of the box in order for my patients to achieve their personal goals. During my time working in schools, I have grown my skills in the area of sensory processing, and I have the belief that every one of us has some sort of sensory aversion or seeking behavior—Fun Fact: I hate wearing socks, and unless it’s below freezing, I refuse to wear them—and I was just reminded during a Cedar Point trip with my family, how much my sensory system loves roller coasters.

Now as I move into women’s health, I have taken continuing education courses specific to pelvic health and manual therapies to provide quality pelvic floor therapy. My approach honors your body’s innate wisdom to heal itself because you know your body better than anyone. My approach considers not only your physical health, but also your mental, emotional, and energetic bodies to provide you with complete holistic care.

I will work with you to provide client-centered care either in your own home or in the clinic—whichever serves you best. I will help to provide you with an integrative, body-positive occupational therapy approach to help you achieve your health and wellness goals.

Education and Training:

Rachel received her Master’s Degree from Florida Gulf Coast University in 2010.  She received her undergraduate degree in Communication Studies from West Virginia University in 2004–if you listen closely, she’s often singing Country Roads to herself.

As an Occupational Therapist, I believe it is important to focus not only on your body, but also on your mind and soul. My view when it comes to therapy is an integrative team approach—when you decide to work with me, we become a team. We will work together to help you thrive in the activities that you not only need on a daily basis, but activities that light up your soul.

Occupations are often referred to as anything you do that ‘occupies’ your time. Our daily occupations give meaning and purpose to our lives and have a direct influence on our health and wellbeing. As your therapist, I will work with you to assess your daily habits, routines, body and any thoughts that may be hindering you. We will then together work to align those needs in order to support your highest self, healing, and growth.

My main goal is to support you in achieving harmony with your mind, body, and soul so you may be empowered to live your best life possible.

Rooted Pelvic Wellness is here to support women in achieving harmony with their mind, body, and soul in order to provide empowerment throughout their lives.
